Activity Overview
The McWane Science Center is a great day out for you and your family whether you live in Birmingham, Alabama, or are just visiting the area. Since the center opened on July 11, 1998, it has been a fine venue for adults and children of all ages to learn more about science and technology.
Things to Do
- See wonderful examples of marine life in the center's World of Water Aquariums. There are a number of different tanks where you can see creatures typical of Alabama's Cahaba River and reservoirs in the state.
- Discover symmetry and the human body in the Anti-Gravity Mirror.
- Visit sharks and rays in the science center's very own touch tank. You and your little ones see Cownose Rays, Southern Stingrays, and White Spotted Bamboo Sharks.
- Experiment with part of the electromagnetic spectrum at the Light and Laser Exhibit where you can even play a harp with no strings!
- Play with giant bubbles in the center's Bubble Room.
- Pick up a fun and educational souvenir of your visit from the McWane Science Center's gift shop.
- Take in a performance at the Rushton Theater. The performances here are obviously related to science.
- Walk with dinosaurs (not literally!). There are few things cooler than dinosaurs and the McWane Science Center has an entire exhibit dedicated to the giant creatures that walked around Alabama at one point.
