Activity Overview
The Memphis Zoo is considered to be among the best zoos in the United States. It boasts over 3,500 animals from across the globe. These animals are spread out over a variety of exhibits and include elephants, giraffe, zebra, flamingos, primates and of course the park's beloved pandas. There are educational programs for school groups and for children of all ages. A part of the community for almost 100 years the Memphis Zoo is a must see while you are in the area.
Things to Do
- There are all kinds of events happening around the zoo right throughout the day whatever time of the week you decide to pay a visit. Keep an eye out for feeding around the zoo.
- If you are lucky you can catch the keepers feeding penguins, elephants, grizzlies or exotic birds. Aside from the feeding times you can stop in for a chat with specific keepers about the animals they look after at different time of the day.
- Best of all is the zoo's famous Sea Lion show which take place at least once a day.

- There are plenty of opportunities awaiting those who decide to volunteer at the Memphis Zoo. The organizers look for help in many different areas. Teenagers as young as 16 years of age can work as party hosts, as assitants for special events, in the area of horticulture and also in the area of animal care. It can be a great way to gain experience or to simply get closer to the animals.
