Activity Overview
Visit one of the oldest and largest anthropological museum in the world located at Harvard University. The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology holds a vast collection of rare historical finds from the Pacific Islands as well as Native American and Mesoamerican artifacts. The building is 4-story high and each floor is devoted to a different culture.
Things to Do
- See ongoing permanent exhibitions such as Encounters with the Americas, an exhibit that focuses on the culture of Latin America, and the Hall of the North American Indian which showcases objects created by Native Americans in the 19th century.
- Explore the special exhibitions that tackles a variety of topics including war and weaponry as well as travel and transformation. These exhibits run for a few months. Check the website for more details.
- Celebrate the Day of the Dead by learning about its Aztec origins. Buy tickets in advance to join this fun night of eating and dancing in memory of departed loved ones.
- If you're visiting with your child, make his experience more memorable by adding activities inspired by the different collections. Materials can be downloaded from the museum's website.
- Attend lectures about archaeological topics, join book signings, and take part in annual ethnological fairs at the Geological Lecture Hall. Schedule of events are posted in the museum's website.

- When joining the lectures, check the website for free event parking.
- Massachusetts residents get in for free on Wednesdays from September to May (3PM-5PM) and during Sunday mornings (9AM-12NN) all-year round.
