Activity Overview
Start the kids young and expose them to the world of space and beyond. Irene W. Pennington Planetarium is the largest planetarium in the state of Louisiana with a 60-foot digital dome. Catch sky shows, digital movies, and light and sound presentations shown in the dome. The planetarium also features permanent galleries that focus on educating kids about the solar system and outer space exploration.
Things to Do
- Help enrich the kids' understanding of the solar system and the outer space by visiting the permanent galleries. See the planets and the sun in scale model at the Planet Tower gallery, meet life-size models of scientists and astronomers at the Solar System gallery, and be updated with the latest photos from outer space and cosmic discoveries from NASA at the Universe Gallery.
- Visit the planetarium's website to check show schedules. Full-dome movies are shown all-year round. The planetarium produces seasonal sky shows featuring the Baton Rouge sky so make sure to catch one if you're in the area. Note that once the show has started, guests will no longer be allowed to enter the dome theater. Children under the age of 3 are only allowed to watch Little Prince and will not be permitted to enter the theater for the other shows.
