Activity Overview
There is no better way to make time stand still than to create a Personalized Silhouette with your child. This beautiful keepsake is fun and easy to make and each one is individualized for each person which is what makes this art project so very special.
In this art project you will create a shadow and of a person's profile and trace that shadow/ silhouette onto a piece of black paper. This silhouette will then be filled with clippings from magazines or words and or pictures or both. Each of the clipped items are meant to be selected by the person whose silhouette they will fill. The artist has the opportunity to carefully reflect on they traits that they think best describe them, or their interests and likes.
Materials Needed
- Large piece of black construction paper
- Large piece of white construction paper
- Magazines
- Scissors
- Flashlight or projector
- Pencil
- Glue stick
How to Make It
- Trace your child's profile onto black paper black paper using a projector or flashlight for light
- Cut the profile out with scissors.
- Use a paper clip it to attach the silhouette to white paper and trace the head shape.
- Then fill in the head shape with magazine images that reflect their interests and personalities
- Glue the negative black outside piece back onto the paper so that it surrounds the filled in silhouette.
