Red Light Green Light is a classic and fun game to play that players of all ages can have fun with. Older generations may even remember playing this game when they were kids so it brings back a little piece of nostalgia as well. Red Light Green Light is fantastic for instilling good listening skills in addition to being enjoyable.
This game can be played both outdoors or indoors but a large open area is best. One person plays the roll of the traffic light and calls out red light and green light which directs players on when to move and when to stop. Players can only move on the green light signal and must freeze when red light is called out. The goal of the players is to be the first to tag the person who is it by following the traffic signals that are shouted out.
Materials Needed
- None needed but a nice open space is helpful
How to Play
- Set up a starting line about 25 feet back from any area where the traffic light signal will be.
- One person is selected to be it and plays the role of the traffic light with his or her back turned to the other players.
- The other kids line up about 25 feet away from the person playing the traffic light.
- With his or her back turned from the other players, the person who is it calls out Green light. The other kids move toward the traffic light.
- It then calls out Red light and turns around quickly.
- If any of the kids who are caught moving, they must go back to the starting line.
- Play continues until someone reaches and tags the person who is it That person then becomes the traffic light.
- The trick to winning this game is to move swiftly and slyly so that you can freeze instantly until you are within reach of the person who is it.
