The Pueblo Grande Museum & Archaeological Park is a fascinating historical attraction located just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. This fascinating 1,500 year-old archaeological site was once used by the prehistoric Hohokam culture.

If your kids love history or archaeology, take them to Pueblo Grande to explore the Hohokam archaeological site and learn all about its history inside the museum galleries, including special hands-on exhibits designed for young children.

Things to Do

  • Explore the Hohokam archaeological site while walking along the Outdoor Trail. Highlights include an adobe compound where people slept, pithouses that provided shade to those working in the sun, the agricultural garden, the platform mound, and the ballcourt, which was used for spectator events related to trade.
  • Take your kids to the Children's Gallery, where they can learn about archaeology through hands-on activities that will show them how to identify artifacts. The whole family can also work together to build a miniature Hohokam village!
  • Visit the Main Gallery exhibit, which focuses on Hohokam architecture, agriculture, and artwork. Its many fascinating artifacts include pottery, tools, and shell jewelry.
