Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is a 734-acre nature area located in Lexington, Kentucky. This beautiful natural space features over 10 miles of hiking trails that wind through woodlands and meadows, cross streams, and pass the remnants of 19th century settlements. It is known for its diverse flora and fauna, which includes over 600 plant species and over 200 bird species, making it a wonderful place to go bird watching. Things to Do
- Go for a family hike through the woodlands and meadows - there are seven different trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels that you can choose from, including a paved trail.
- If you're up for a challenge, go for a hike along the Yellow trail, which rewards hikers with beautiful views of the Flower Bowl preserve.
- Volunteer at the sanctuary on the first Saturday of the month! Volunteers help to maintain the trails, remove invasive plants, and more.
- Ask for a yoga mat or blanket and practice yoga to improve your flexibility and energy while enjoying the fresh air.
Raven Run Nature Sanctuary Insider Tips
- Make sure you stop into the nature center to sign in before you start your hike and sign out before heading home - it is required for your safety.
- Don't forget to bring along hats, sunscreen, and water bottles in the summertime - there are water fountains in the nature center, but there aren't any along the trails.
- Stay on the trails! It's important to stay on the trails for your safety, as well as to protect this important natural environment.
