Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals displays gems, minerals, crystals, fossils and more, the museum is located in Hillsboro, OR. It is a must visit for educators, historians and anyone interested in gemology and minerals, the museum building has been constructed with natural stone used in the interior and the exterior. The museum features a unique architectural style, the museum was conceived by the Rice family. The museum houses some of the stunning gems from around the world. The museum is open to tours Wednesday through Sunday.

Things to Do

  • Tour the museum and see some stunning gems and minerals, rocks and crystals including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, gold and more.
  • It features the famous "Alma Rose" from Colorado, see the meteorite collection, see some rare fossils in the fossil gallery like dinosaur fossils and eggs.
  • The main gallery features 20,000 minerals, rocks and crystals, there are rare minerals on display, such as benitoite.
  • The museum has a wood collection, there are 460 specimens from around the world in the petrified wood collection.
  • Guided tours are given every Saturday, explore the museum grounds and visit the rock gift shop.
