Rockwood Nature Center's 161 acres are home to arboretums, walking trails and a lake which can all be enjoyed by the public. The Center offers more than a pathway into nature however. There are plenty of activities to take part in with many tennis, softball and basketball courses, an extensive archery range, a playground and a dog park. It is a facility that can keep people of all ages and interests entertained.
Things to Do
- The park is home to a Nature Center where you can learn about the habitats of the animals that live in the surrounding nature. Children can encounter animals and you can find out all kinds of information about the wildlife of Virginia.
- The Center has a total of 5.5 miles of paved trails. The individual trails vary in length from 0.2 to 1.5 miles and as such can be tackled by people of all ages and abilities. Download the Center's Trail Map to help you get around.
- Learn to use a bow and arrow on one of the Center's Archery courses. From introductory courses to more advanced and technical lessons the Center has an extensive list of courses which it offers to both children and adults. It can be a very sociable activity and certainly makes a change from more typical kids' sports like baseball and soccer!
Rockwood Nature Center Insider Tips
- In Fall, Winter and Spring the Center is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In Summer they also open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
