Activity Overview
No visit to San Diego is complete without a visit to San Diego Bay. The bay in San Diego is one of the largest in the state, with San Francisco Bay and Humboldt Bay being the only two that are bigger. The bay is so big that it actually includes National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and Coronado, in addition to San Diego itself.
As one of the best bays in the entire country, you won't be surprised to find that there are plenty of things to do in and around San Diego Bay. The 34-mile stretch of waterfront is divided into seven different areas for you and your family to visit, though you probably won't have time to do it all in just one day out!
Things to Do
- Head along to Harbor Island Park where you can either go for a hike or go jogging. You can also bring your bicycles for a ride or go fishing.
- Go see the yachts at Shelter Island. Make sure you don't miss some of Shelter Island's fine examples of public art.
- Enjoy one of the many tourist attractions at Chula Vista. There are plenty of places to eat, shop, or even just to take in a movie. Coronado also features plenty of attractions for tourists as well as two theatres.
- Go to Imperial Beach and take the littlest ones to the kids' park.
The Big Bay Insider Tips
- Imperial Beach is one of the quieter parts of the bay. You should head along here if you're looking to avoid the crowds. Consider taking your own food along to save money as there are not tons of amenities in comparison to some of San Diego's other beaches.
