Activity Overview
Shelburne Farms is a working farm and National Historic Landmark on the shores of Lake Champlain in Shelburne, Vermont. Shelburne Farm is a 1400 acre estate that was established as an experimental farm in the 1800's. The Shelburne Farms has a herd of Brown Swiss Cows, 125 purebred, and sheep on the pastures. This is a great place to visit for all ages.
Things to Do
In Shelburne Farms visitors may enjoy the restaurant, inn, walking trails, children’s farmyard, property tours and special events. There is also a gift shop that has a cheese to taste and buy, and then the main area where they have a bread store, animals to see, and a place to watch them make cheese. There is also a food cart on the other side that has food from the farm that was extremely good. The grounds are large. This is an incredibly beautiful place.
They have wonderful, accommodating,and well informed staff giving very useful information. There are plenty of activities for children and lots of interactive experiences for them with farm animals. There are good examples of organic vegetables in the greenhouses.
The views of the lake are spectacular. The lakeside is amazing, and clean having serene setting. The food is marvelous.
There are over 10 miles of hiking trails. Overall this is a great and stunning location to take children and adults out to learn about farming and sustainability and also for a relaxing brunch too.
Shelburne Farms Insider Tips
- This is probably a great place for kids to explore.
- It is recommended strongly to take the tractor tour; it takes you near the Lake Champlain, around the dairy farm and inside the Inn and courtyard for a breathtaking experience.
- This is fascinating 19-century estate.
- The place is bit pricey but terrific.
