The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore is situated along the eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan, in the Northwestern Lower Michigan area. You can easily get to the park by car or public transportation. For those traveling by car, routes are available from both the Detroit and Chicago areas and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Things to Do
- The Dune Climb is the main attraction for children at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore. Take the little ones there and let them run and roll down the dunes. You can keep an eye on the kids from the bottom of the dunes, which is a perfect spot for a picnic.
- Go to the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, where the entire family can have lots of fun biking, roller-skating, or simply walking. The trail is non-motorized and is 27 miles long.
- Various ranger-led programs are available for the children year round. These include guided visits to the Maritime Museum and teaching kids more about the life-saving activities.
