Activity Overview

Smith Plantation is a historic home and plantation located near Atlanta in the city of Roswell, Georgia. It is the former estate of Archibald Smith, one of the founders of Roswell, which was built in 1845 and opened to the public as a museum in the 1990s. Today, visitors can take a tour of the plantation house and its outbuildings, view personal items that belonged to the Smith family, explore the gardens, and attend living history events.

Things to Do

  • Take a tour of the Archibald Smith Home, which was the home of three generations of the Smith family and contains many original furnishings and decorations.
  • View outbuildings such as the cookhouse, the greenhouse, the spring house, the barn, and the corn crib, which was used to store corn.
  • Explore the gorgeous gardens, which include a butterfly garden, terraced gardens, an antique rose garden, an herb garden, and a small cotton patch that showcases the main crop cultivated on the plantation.

Smith Plantation Insider Tips

  • On a sunny day, take a leisurely stroll along the nature trail in the Woodland Garden, which features all kinds of beautiful plants and flowers.
  • Keep an eye out for the 39 street lights throughout the property that were purchased from the city of London in the mid-1900s.
  • If you also plan to visit Bulloch Hall and Barrington Hall, two other historical sites in Roswell, you can save money by purchasing a Trilogy Pass, which includes discounted admission to all three attractions.
