Activity Overview

The Smithsonian Discovery Theater is a unique theater in Washington, DC, specifically targeted to young people. Live performances offer a culturally relevant and diverse experience for guests. Prepare to be entertained by the exclusivity of each performance.

Things to Do

  1. Book one of the many touring shows to come to your school or event
  2. Enjoy a one hour cultural and entertaining performance

Insider Tips

  • Shows are listed with age appropriate suggestion windows.
  • Performances are approximately 1 hour long.
  • All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds for tickets purchased. You may however, reschedule your reservations as long as it is done more than 30 minutes before the performance.
  • Families may be asked to sit in particular areas to accommodate large groups that are not able to be split up.
  • Parents are not allowed to sit on the rug area with their children. Adults should sit in the chairs along the side or they may sit together in the risers.
  • Parking is extremely limited. The website gives many parking suggestions, I would suggest making yourself familiar with your options.
  • There is absolutely no food or drink allowed at this location.
  • There is stroller parking available outside of the theater. Strollers will not be permitted in the auditorium/ theater, as most shows are sold out and space is limited
  • Infants may attend shows but you must pay admission for them. Be sure to buy a ticket for your child under 2 years old at the rate of $3.
  • The museum stresses that if you have young children who cannot sit quietly, you must leave the theater with them until they are ready to return and be able to do so. This is out of respect for the performers and the other guests.
  • No shows are available during August and September. They also do not have shows every day and may be at different locations.
