Activity Overview
Put on some music reminiscent of that of a snake charmer and use the magic and science of static electricity to make your homemade snake dance. Aspiring magicians of all ages will have a lot of fun with this crafty magic trick that is fun and easy to make and perform. You will find yourself doing this over and over again.
If you are performing this as an actual magic trick for an audience, set it up on a table after you create the snake and secretly rub the ruler against the wool fabric underneath the table and then raise the ruler over the head of your snake with some extra special magic words.
Materials Needed
- Tissue Paper
- Markers
- Scissors
- Plastic Ruler
- A piece of wool fabric
How to Make and Do
- Trace a large circle onto your tissue paper and cut it out.
- Draw and evenly spiraled swirl on the circle.
- Decorate your snake with zig zags and spots with your markers.
- Draw eyes on the inner most part of the spiral as shown.
- Use your scissors to cut along your spiral.
- Take your plastic ruler and rub it vigorously against your piece of wool fabric.
- Lastly, gently touch the snake's head with the ruler and the snake will rise up out of the coil.
