- Scissors
How to Do It
First begin by showing your audience a regular playing card. Tell them that you are certain that you can cut a hole in the card big enough for a child to fit through. You are certain to have some people who have their doubts. Accept the challenge!
- Take an old playing card and fold it in half lengthwise.
- Using your scissors, make two identical narrow cuts on each end starting with the fold side. Do not cut the card all the way through. You want to leave approximately 1/8 of an inch from the sides and the bottom.
- Continue to alternate cutting in this manner with your next cut being 1/8 of an inch over but starting at the bottom and extending 1/8 of an inch from the edge. Then back to the top, cutting 1/8 of an inch over stopping 1/8 of an inch from the bottom and so on.
- Now take your scissors and start cutting the middle sections only along the fold. Do not cut the two end pieces. They will remain attached.
- Now, carefully open the delicate card.
- Using great care, gently open the card up and if cut correctly, it should form a nice large loop. Have the child step into the loop and lift it right up over his/ her head.
