Activity Overview
Create gorgeous artistic balls of yarn that are stiff and hold their shape. This is a great craft for crafters of all ages to enjoy. You simply dip yarn in an adhesive and wrap the yarn artfully around and around a balloon. When the balloon dried, it is popped and the result is a beautiful unique orb.
Place several orbs in a decorative bowl as a home accent or hang them from the ceiling for decorations, use them to create a mobile or I would assume that you can even use it to have a toss. Create just one or many for a spectacular display. Be sure to throw away the popped portion of the balloon, as it can be a choking hazard to young children.
Materials Needed
- Yarn or Embroidery thread
- Water balloons
- Mod Podge or a mix of Elmers glue, tacky glue and a touch of water
- Butter Knife
How to Make It
- Blow up several water balloons and tie them off.
- Pour Mod Podge into a small bowl.
- Lightly dip the strings into the Mod Podge and skim away excess liquid.
- Wrap the Mod Podge saturated around the balloon over and over varying the direction and being sure to criss cross with other pieces of yarn. Do not cover the balloon completely, but well enough that it looks like a web of yarn encasing the balloon.
- Allow to dry for several hours.
- Pop the balloon inside when the yarn or string is completely dry.
- Use a butter Knife to gently scrape away any excess dried adhesive.
