Activity Overview
Sunsphere, gold-colored glass sphere on top of a tower, is the best place to see the whole of Knoxville. The structure was built as a symbol of the World's Fair and though the place has not been used after the fair, it still is the most favorite spot of locals and visitors for a panoramic view of the city. Aside from the view, the Observation Deck features exhibits where guests can learn about the history of Knoxville and the 1982 World's Fair.
Things to Do
- If you're taking the family on a tour in the downtown area, drive towards World's Pair Fark and make a quick stop here. Admission is free. Ride the elevator up to the Observation deck at the fourth level and be amazed with sweeping views of the park below, the city of Knoxville, the Tennessee River, and the Smoky Mountains.
- As you go around the deck, take the time to read the plaques displayed on the walls. These contain information about the beginnings of the city, the history of the World's Fair, and how the Sunsphere itself was built.
- Visit the Icon Ultra Lounge at the fifth floor if you wish to grab some food and drinks. The restaurant is open from 4PM onwards.
