Activity Overview
Create a masterpiece of abstract art that you will be proud to display by using painter's tape and acrylic paint on canvas. This is a great art project for all ages to enjoy. You can be as detailed as you would like to be when you paint or be more haphazard as you create your artwork. Whatever style that you choose to paint in, the results of this painting technique will be amazing.
We have had fun watching design shows use painter's tape to make designs on walls and we thought that the same technique could be just as stunning if not more on canvas. The steps are easy and the artwork is so very pleasing to the eye. It is great fun to observe all of the different ways that you can approach the painting in this project. Every single painting is such a unique expression of the artist.
Materials Needed
- A canvas of any size
- 1/2 inch painter's tape
- Acrylic Paints
- Paintbrushes
How to Make It
- Lay your canvas flat on the table in from of you.
- Tear off lengths of painter's tape and tape them onto the canvas in long overlapping lines on angles. You will create angled shaped blank spaces all across the canvas. Do not overdo it with the tape. You will be painting the blank spaces.
- Use your acrylic paints and brushes to paint each blank space panel a different pattern or scene or design. You do not need to worry about staying in the lines. It is okay if you get some paint on the painter's tape.
- Allow your painting to dry completely.
- Carefully pull off all of the tape exposing white lines which outline and define your artwork.
