The Menil Collection

The Menil Collection is a one of Houston's smaller art museums. If you and your family have a few hours spare and would like to view and appreciate surrealist, abstract, and pop art, you should make your way to the Menil Collection. There are a number of well-known artists on display there so you needn't be an expert to be able to recognize all the works and pieces.

As a smaller museum, you and your family can head around for a brief visit if you're short on time. However, if you would like to encourage your children to think about the art, appreciate it, and consider the motivations behind the works, you could literally spend hours there.

Things to Do

• View the museum's collection in a comfortable and intimate environment.
• Enjoy exquisite food from the Bistro Menil. The bistro is located just across the road from the museum itself and making a reservation is recommended to avoid disappointment.

The Menil Collection Insider Tips

• Rather than using street parking, use the free parking lot opposite the museum. While this parking lot isn't huge, during quiet periods you shouldn't have any difficultly finding a space.
• Check the museum's current and upcoming events in order to better plan your visit to the Menil Collection.
• Do your research! Sadly, the Menil Collection doesn't have guided tours. However, you can use their website to brush up on your art knowledge before each visit.
