Activity Overview
You haven't truly had great ice cream until you have visited the Uconn Dairy Bar. The Ice cream is out of this world and made from the milk that the Uconn cows produce, staffed by Uconn students, and made on the premises with tons of Uconn pride and tradition. They offer at least 24 flavors of delectable ice cream flavors every day and have some of the most unique and hard to find flavors anywhere.
They serve very ample portions of the very freshest and most decadent ice cream that you will find anywhere. The campus is also beautiful to walk through. One of my favorite spots for a little exercise is to walk Horsebarn Hill which runs in a loop behind the Dairy Bar. The hill presents a nice challenge, the scenic views are incredible and you can visit the animals on your way through before or after enjoying your ice cream sensation.
Things to do
- The UConn campus is lovely to explore on its own for a beautiful walking tour.
- Indulge yourself on the amazing ice cream at the dairy bar, view the area that ice cream is made, and even catch a milking session if you time it just right.
- Visit the animals along Horsebarn Hill
- Purchase ice cream, farm fresh eggs, and butter
Uconn Dairy Bar Tips
- Trust the signs for the Dairy Bar more than your GPS. There are many signs to guide you in the right direction.
- You enter in the front and exit out the back to keep the flow of customers moving smoothly.
- You can enjoy your ice cream inside or my favorite, outside at the friendly picnic tables out back.
- The entrance looks like it has a ton of stairs but there is also a handicap ramp, so you CAN use a stroller or a wheelchair. Note that the ramp is only in the front so if you want to get to the picnic area the ramp will get you to the side and you can maneuver around back.
- Don't miss the viewing window where you can see where and how the ice cream is made.
- If visiting the animals, follow the signs which are clearly marked. There are some electric fences and warnings about not petting or feeding the animals or no entry. Heed the warnings.
