Activity Overview
Union Station is a train station in Washington, D.C. that is one of the busiest train stations in the United States. It is the headquarters of Amtrak, which operates passenger trains throughout the country, and is also a popular shopping and tourist destination. It is also known for its beautiful architectural features and statues. Even if you aren't traveling to or from Washington, D.C. by train, it is worth a visit just to marvel at its interiors and peruse its shops.
Things to Do
- Walk around the station and admire its architecture, including the impressive Main Hall with its large clock and its beautiful arches.
- View The Progress of Railroading, a group of six colossal sculptures on the outside of the building by artist Louis St. Gaudens, which depict six deities related to rail transport: Archimedes, Ceres, Apollo, Themis, Thales, and Prometheus.
