USS Blueback (ss-581) is a decommissioned submarine that was not nuclear powered submarine and was launched in 1959. Visitors can tour the submarine that is placed permanently in the Oregon Museum of Science and industry in Portland, Oregon. The submarine built for the US navy served the country for 31 years, the length of the submarine is 219 feet. It is one of the most modern US navy submarines on display, it is among the fastest submarines of its time, and is a trademark design of the teardrop hull that made it very maneuverable and fast. Tours of the submarine are offered 7 days a week.

  • The USS Blueback is a wonder submarine to tour, the tour is informative for both adults and children, daily guided tours are offered for visitors.
  • The guided tours are 45-minute long and visitors can learn how a submarine works, peer through a periscope, see a torpedo missile, and more.
  • Learn about the 85-member crew that lived in the submarine and see the bunks where they used to spend time and sleep.
  • There is a general submarine tour recommended for all and a tech tour that is a 3-hour long tour, tech tours must be reserved.
