Activity Overview
The Wildwood Nature Center is located in the largely urbanised area of Park Ridge, Illinois. Amongst this urban environment the Center provides a place to learn about animals and the natural world with animal exhibits, regular events and educational programs, many of which are often aimed at children.
Things to Do
- Check out the Center's exhibit room which is home to 35 animals including Ball Python Snakes, Box Turtles, Guinea Pigs, Iguanas, Tiger Salamanders, Bullfrogs and American Toads.
- If a respect and appreciation for nature is important to you and you would like to imbue your child with the same values then start doing it early by enrolling your 3 or 4 year old in the Center's Nature Preschool. This Preschool teaches children all the basics that are covered in other preschools like their ABC's. Alongside this curriculum they also concentrate on outdoor activities and lessons on nature.
- The Center organises trips to other places of interest to Nature lovers in the Greater Chicago Area. Locations in the past have included the Jasper Pulaski State Wildlife Area, the Chicago Flower and Garden Show and the Starved Rock State Park.
- Take your youngest kids along to the Center's animal feeding time where they can help feed and learn about 35 different animals. The feeding times take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.30 am and 3.30 pm.
Wildwood Nature Center Insider Tips
- Make sure you take a stroll around the lagoon where you can see plenty of ducks, tadpoles and frogs.
- The Center offers a range of specially tailored birthday parents designed to suit specific age groups. You can also sign your kids up to a once off Eco Art Party where they will design and make a range of arts and crafts from totally eco-friendly materials. - Take your dog along to the nearby Paws Park to let him loose in a family friendly environment. You can also sign yourself or your kids up for dog obedience lessons to learn how to take care of your pup properly.
