Activity Overview

Winterpast Farm is a family farm attraction located in Wake Forest, just 15 miles north of Raleigh, North Carolina. This beautiful former tobacco farm is owned and maintained by Farmer Mary Droessler, who welcomes visitors to tour the land, see the barn, and meet the animals that live on the farm. Visitors of all ages love having the opportunity to feed, pet, and hold farm animals such as chickens, ducks, pigs, and rabbits while chatting with Farmer Mary. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in the countryside, Winterpast Farm is a must-visit attraction.

Things to Do

  • Take a tour of the farm! Farmer Mary will show you around and introduce you to all the animals, including pigs, sheep, goats, llamas, ducks, chickens, peacocks, donkeys, and quail.
  • You're welcome to feed the animals, but you should bring along your own food. Items that are acceptable for the animals include apple slices, carrots, grapes, cabbage, celery, crackers, bread, and raisins, as well as other foods listed here.
  • Bring along some food and have a family picnic at the farm! There are two picnic areas - one near the farm animals and another that is a "chicken free zone".

Winterpast Farm Insider Tips

  • To schedule a visit, first view the open hours listed on the farm's homepage or its Facebook page. It's important not to just show up - Farmer Mary is very busy, so text her first with your group size and the time you'd like to visit in order to make sure she will be available to show you around.
  • Admission is $10 per person for visitors of all ages - make sure you have the right amount of cash or your checkbook with you.
  • Check out the unique items Farmer Mary has for sale! All items cost $5, and include things such as fresh eggs, peacock feathers, and clay ornaments.
  • If your child wants a pet but you would like to do a test-run first, consider renting a pet from Winterpast Farm. Farmer Mary generally rents guinea pigs and bunnies, plus everything you would need to care for them for a week, for just $35. Learn more here.
