Activity Overview
Nature enthusiasts love to visit the World Bird Sanctuary, located in Missouri Hardwood forest. This peaceful nature park is home to a wide variety of different birds, including endangered species of birds that need preservation.
The park is nestled over a 305 acres of the forest land, where visitors can have a self-guided tour of live display of wild life, a wonderful display of different bird species, including Eagles, Owls, Hawks, falcons, pelicans, parrots, vultures, pigeons, and many reptiles. The sanctuary offers many special seasonal shows, and educational programs, and bird watching tours can be scheduled. World bird sanctuary was founded in 1977.
Things to Do
- Families can enjoy live display of wonderful bird species in a natural environment. Make your reservations now for a guided nature hike in the woods; "Hey, there's nature in my woods". Children and adults can join in for a 2-hours hiking program, you'd see birds, reptiles, amphibians, and so much more.
- "Keeper Talks" is scheduled every Saturday and Sunday, where kids can spend some time with the bird keepers, can ask questions, and get to know more about the birds. The admission to keeper talks is free.
- Biking and walking trails are available. A great learning experience for kids where they will have a live encounter with wild birds, kids will learn how to take care of the birds.
- Shaded tables are available for picnic, and birthday parties can be arranged. Kids should also be taken to the bird hospital. The staff and volunteers are open to any questions related to the birds.
- An annual open house will be held in October, where children can learn a lot about birds, their habitats, with live animal programs in the amphitheater, and children's programs at the Kid's corner. Annual open house will feature many kid's activities and giveaways.
- "Bird Bundles" is a children's activity they can do while visiting.
- Don't forget to donate at the facility, you can also donate online. Injured birds are rehabilitated in the sanctuary, all of the birds at the sanctuary are available for adoption.
World Bird Sanctuary Insider Tips
- The signage in front of the cages will give plenty of information about the birds.
- If the weather outside gets cold, visit the nature center.
- Dogs are not allowed in the vicinity.
- Free parking is available.
